The Miami Chamber Tech Committee featured the compelling topic, BYOD, Bring Your Own Device to work. The big trend in the work place today is staff bringing their PCs, tablets and smartphones – to the office. And, its bringing many issues with it for consideration. Some believe that BYOD may help employees be more productive. Others say it increases employee morale and convenience to use their own devices while making the company appear to be a more flexible and attractive employer. The program presented many points of view on the topic so organizations could determine the advantages and disadvantages to make decisions regarding their computing environments, while addressing the needs of mobile end users.
The BYOD panelists included Robert Plessett, Managing Partner, Teleswitch, Ilan Sredni, President, Palindrome Consulting and Philippe Houdard, Developer/Partner of Pipeline Executive Offices at 1101 South Tower Brickell.
Moderator Kevin M. Levy, Industry Growth Group Chair, Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce and Partner at Gunster introduced the topic and led panelists in a fascination discussion. Kevin said, ““Every company has different technology needs and goals, but an effective BYOD Policy always requires a thorough upfront analysis, tailored policies, approval at the highest levels of management, education of employees and frequent re-evaluation and adjustment of policies to address the ever-changing landscape of technology.”
A primary goal of the Technology & Bioscience Committee of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce is to organize quarterly seminars to educate members on a broad range of technology topics. “Our BYOD event highlighted one of the fastest growing trends in technology, which has been chronicled to increase employee productivity by as much as 250 hours a year. Panelist Ilan Sredni’s remarks highlighted many of the benefits and technical challenges business owners should consider,” said Ralph MacNamara, Chair of the Miami Chamber Technology Committee and Director of Client Services, Kaufman, Rossin & Co., P.A.
